Santa and The Star Fruit

Santa And The Star Fruit ran in Kirkgate Market on Saturdays November 30 and Deecember 7, 14 and 21, 2013 and on Thursdays December 12 and 19 in the Winter Wonder Leeds marquee on Briggate and we played primary schools too..
Santa And the Star Fruit is - a site specific Christmas mini musical for children and families, set on a fruit stall in Leeds Market, written by Martin Riley with original songs and music by Stephen Deazley, designed by Emma Williams and starring Bella Quinola, Elvis the Elf (Richard Ormrod) - and the audience.

Bella Quinola has taken a fruit stall in Kirkgate Market for the Christmas Season but sales are slow so she’s asked her old friend, Santa to help.
He’s not used to selling – he’s more used to giving stuff away but, since his success last year at Kirkgate, helping his step-daughter sell knitted cakes, Santa thinks he’s an expert at promoting and advertising.
He’s discovered how important it is to tell people a story about what you’re selling so he’s persuaded Bella Quinola that they should tell a story about fruit.
And Santa has an exciting surprise. He’s brought one of his elves, the one who plays music to keep the others happy while they’re working - Elvis the Elf.
Together with Bella they are going to tell a fabulous tale set in Fruit Salad City. All the characters in the tale are fruit and all the fruits have songs to sing.
The only problem is that they are short of several characters and a chorus, so all the children and their families in the audience will have to join in and help out.
Together they will make a mini-musical for Christmas about a very special, very Christmassy kind of fruit: the tale of Little Bud who discovers that he is, quite surprisingly – a Star Fruit!
